EXHIBITIONS
Over the years we have attended many shows, in quite a few different venues. We attend The Knit and Stitch show at Alexandra Palace and Harrogate, but we have also done shows with the ICHF events, where venues have changed over the years.
Alexandra Palace is a multi-purpose event centre, where a variety of high profile events are held. It is a Grade II listed building which was designed by John Johnson and Alfred Meeson and opened in 1873. It was intended to be “the peoples palace” and people often refer to it with its nick name Ally Pally. The building stands within the Alexandra park which is free to the public for recreational use.
In 1935 part of Alexandra Palace was leased to the BBC to use as their production and transmission television service, so it became the home of the worlds first regular television service. The broadcasting system was the first fully electric television system to be used in regular broadcasting. Alexandra Palace continued to be used by the BBC for many years and its radio and television mast is still in use. The original studios A and B are still intact with the production gallery, and are used to exhibit historical television equipment.
Alexandra Palace has its own theatre which dates back to Victorian era, with the original stage machinery still in use. The great hall and west hall are usually used for Exhibitions, concerts and conferences. Notable events are the Darts world Championships and the snooker Masters.
The Knit and Stitch show has been at Alexandra Palace for over 10 years and is usually held in October.
The Harrogate Convention centre is located in the centre of the Victorian spa town. This purpose built centre which is 13,700 sqm of versatile spaces as well as including a 2000 seat auditorium.
It has hosted many corporate events, from political to academic conferences, to trade and consumer events such as the knit and stitch show.
Birmingham National Exhibition Centre
The NEC in Birmingham is the UK’s no1 venue for large shows, exhibitions and events, opened in Febuary 1976, consiting of 6 halls. A seventh hall was added in 1980 which was created as an arena (it has changed names many time but currently BP pulse live) 3 more halls were added in 1989 with an extra 4 added in 1993 and a further 4 in 1998 – there are in total 18 interconnected halls covering 2000000sq ft, Lots of major exhibitions are held there such as Crufts and the British international motor show.
SEC Glasgow
The SEC is Scotland’s largest exhibition centre, has 3 main buildings The Exhibition centre, SEC Armadillo and The OVO arena. The centre host a range of different events from Eurovision Dance contest, large music concerts

Golden Hinde attended The Craft and creative show at Event City in Manchester, this was a brand new show for us, we took our usual shop and did some book signings but in addition to this we also did demonstrations. This show is a mixture of crafts and we were one of a handful of hand embroidery companies. This is a local show to us, so watch this space for more dates.

2018 shows were slightly different to previous years with the release of our NEW book ‘Glorious Goldwork’ we attended more shows and did lots of book signings.

9 – 11 February 2012 – Event City, The Trafford Centre – Stand A16 What an extremely busy time, three shows in 2 months, with the set up of both our normal stand and the gallery. At Ally Pally we started at 9 in the morning and didn’t finish till 7 at night. We were very fortunate on two counts, mum is always good at making the food to keep us going and the ladies came towards the end of the day to help us put the finishing touches to the gallery.
We would like to thank all the girls that helped us, we couldn’t have done it without you. We were relieved at the end of the Harrogate show, even though we were partially snowed in. Vicky and Joyce stayed with us till the end and helped us pack everything away.
Mum had made a diorama to help us set up, unfortunately she forgot to bring it to the show. never mind mum, here it is in the making, alot of time and preparation went into getting ready for the show.
Here we are at the end of the day sheeting up our stand.
What a great time we had, very tiring but very enjoyable. Meeting lots of people we know and lots of people we don’t. It is always great to see familiar faces and to have a good chat. These were the shows we attended in 2010. We had a gallery for you all to look at.

25 – 28 November – Harrogate – stand TG 530 We are a group of Goldworkers. Although Sarah’s love of the traditional is never far away, we bring Goldwork within the reach of everyone, tempting you with a design that will make you want to have a go.
The ladies combined talents have worked on this exhibition for over 3 years. Over the past few months, the groups have been concentrating on the theme Oriental Odysseys (and no that didn’t include going out for a Chinese meal together). Much ooh-ing and aah-ing over choices, and some very different designs appeared, depending upon the individual’s
preference. Junks, dragons, geishas and landscapes were among the designs, each one totally unique. A real labour of love (and much stitching).
The ages of the group range from 34 to 87 and they all work with the enjoyment that only friends can share, as they natter they work their magic with their golden threads. We are delighted to be able to bring such a collection of completed Goldwork embroidery to you, the volume of which has never been seen before. It is a rare occasion that these pieces are shown as a lot of pieces go into private collections (family, churches, schools and galleries) once completed.
