Silk Dupion Dark Blue
Silk Dupion Dark Blue (sometimes the spelling is ‘douppioni’ or ‘dupioni’), is a lustrous silk, usually brightly coloured and often woven from two different colours of threads, to give it a shot appearance. A reversible fabric which is not particularly stretchy, but is relatively easy to sew with or onto. For Goldwork you will need a backing fabric such as Poly Cotton or Calico
Silk Dupion is the most widely known silk and is made in India. It is a medium weight silk. It has a slub that gives it a textured effect. The degree of texture does vary from colour to colour and if it is powerloom (smoother) or handloom (which is more textured) We use Silk Dupion on The Embroidery Academy and at our Goldwork retreats for our Goldwork projects.
Dark Blue, Handloom has more slubs, powerloom is smoother but can still contain slubs.
