Silk Dupion Charcoal

Silk Dupion Charcoal (sometimes the spelling is ‘douppioni’ or ‘dupioni’), is a lustrous silk, usually brightly coloured and often woven from two different colours of threads, to give it a shot appearance.  A reversible fabric which is not particularly stretchy, but is relatively easy to sew with or onto. For Goldwork you will need a backing fabric such as  Poly Cotton or Calico

Silk Dupion is the most widely known silk and is made in India. It is a medium weight silk. It has a slub that gives it a textured effect. The degree of texture does vary from colour to colour and if it is powerloom (smoother) or handloom (which is more textured)

Silk Dupion Charcoal, is a powerloom  but still has a few slubs. Charcoal is a dark silvery grey
