Why special tools?
It is important to use Metal thread scissors, for wires and NOT just your standard embroidery scissors. The wires will damage and blunt the blades, and in return the embroidery scissors can damage the wires.
The Mellor is a handy little tool, is great for helping to lay threads or wires flat when sewing, it can also be used to create holes in the fabric to assist with plunging or creating eyelets.
All the needles that you need, Couching and wire needles are for the main sewing, leather needle will go through Leather with ease reducing any tears , and passing and plunging needles which makes it easier to finish off the ends of threads.
Translucent thread – the thread that we use the most for goldwork as it becomes almost invisible next to goldwork threads and wires, just don’t forget to wax the thread to make it stronger.
