Linen Twill is the fabric that is traditionally used for Crewelwork (Jacobean) embroidery. Linen twill is 100% natural, and so is ideal for embroidery using Crewel wools. The linen has some give when you pass a needle through and it closes up again when you have finished pulling your yarn through. Twill has a characteristic diagonal grain line which can be seen on both sides of the fabric.
This fabric is also recommended and used by the RSN, in their book of embroidery
